In the area of Friol, just 12 km from Lugo, is this large stone house that, once restored, can become a magnificent mansion. Located on a land plot of approximately 1 ha, the property consists of several buildings: two-storey stone house with 233 m2 each; hayloft of 116 m2, horreo of 10 m2, threshing land of 90 m2 ... all located around a large semi open central courtyard of 305 m2 with stone columns and partially covered.
The property includes a well and two springs. Many are the possibilities of this magnificent property to transform it into a spacious and comfortable house or a good rural hotel surrounded by a splendid nature.
Friol is framed within the protected Natural Area Terras do Miño. The sacred forest that meant the Latin word lucus from which it is easy to derive Lugo is not understood without the river Miño, revered as a father until today. The Biosphere Reserve covers from the mountain ranges of the north to the south of the walled city. In total, forty percent of the province of Lugo, which also has two other reserves declared by UNESCO, and more than half of its population.
We are in the upper basin, but not fast. It allows us to savor the way with tranquility. First, Fonmiñá, recorded in school memory as the birthplace of the Miño river, is worthy of a visit that extends to the highest sources of the Sierra de Meira, such as Pedregal de Irimia. Here we will find a humble stream between large stone masses, accumulation of glacial origin.
The waters are soon replenished in the horizontal landscapes of the region of A Terra Chá. Other rivers join the fluvial network and, above all, the lagoons gain prominence. Then it approaches the city of Lugo with a bimillennial history concentrated in the Roman walls (World Heritage) that we can cover entirely by the adarve. But ten minutes outside the walls we can hear the sound of the waters if we are in search of the sacred forests and other natural wonders such as the river islands.
The water routes connect and take advantage of the roads of Santiago: the French Way, in the southern limit of the reserve; the Primitive Way, that crosses the city of Lugo; and the North Road, from the Cantabrian cornice. Hundreds of kilometers that show the historical coexistence between nature and traditional human activities of agriculture and livestock.
The municipalities included in the Biosphere Reserve amount to a total of 26: Abadín, Alfoz, Baralla, Begonte, Castro de Rei, Castroverde, O Corgo, Cospeito, Friol, Guitiriz, Guntín, Láncara, Lugo, Meira, Mondoñedo, Muras , Ourol, Outeiro de Rei, O Páramo, A Pastoriza, Pol, Rábade, Riotorto, O Valadouro, Vilalba and Xermade.
